  • What is Bectu?
    BECTU is the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Union which represents over 40,000 staff, contract and freelance workers in the media and entertainment industries. BECTU offers protection, independent advice and support and negotiates our pay and conditions with PACT. Find out more about BECTU here.
  • What is The Rough Assembly?
    The Rough Assembly is the Post Production & Facilities Branch (PP&F) of the union BECTU covering workers within Post Production & Facilities who either work and/or live within London or the South East of England which is the London Production Division (LPD). We have over 1000 members who work in all areas, grades and genres within picture and sound editorial as freelancers and staff from Post Production Runners to award-winning Picture and Sound Editors. ​ We actively work to maintain competitive, fair and thriving Post Production Departments and to improve conditions in the Film, TV and Web-Based Video Industries.

  • I would like to join The Rough Assembly
    You need to be a member of BECTU before joining the The Rough Assembly. Visit the Sign-Up Page. You will be asked to provide a valid BECTU membership number. Once we receive your application, we will check your membership status, details and process it accordingly.
  • I have a query about my membership

  • I have become unemployed
    If you are currently unemployed please contact the membership team on 020 7346 0900 (office hours, Mon-Fri) or email membership@bectu.org.uk.
  • What rate should I be paid?
    Look at our Rate Cards to determine what rate you should be earning. Our Rate Cards present accurate, current, and representative figures of what rates people are being paid for different roles.
  • I have an issue at work, what do I do?
    There are a few different options depending on the situation: You can check out our Resources to find advice on anti-bullying, finance, strike, mental health and freelancing. You can ask a question in our groups and forum to receive advice and support from other members on workplace dilemmas. You can ask the Committee a question by emailing committee@theroughassembly.com. For more serious and urgent workplace issues, you can speak to our Bectu Official Stefan Vassalos who supports members with workplace issues including redundancies, monies owed, notice periods and employment law.
  • I’ve got a problem at work, but I’m not a member. Can I still get help from Bectu?
