COMMITTEE 2024 - 2025

Arthur Harrison

Chair

1st Assistant Editor & VFX Editor / Film & TV Drama

As a trainee assistant editor in 2016 I remember feeling the same anxiety many had felt when going out to find their next gig - how do I negotiate fairer deals for myself? What skills should I focus on? How much experience do I need to step up? I really wanted a form of guidance so that I could understand what was reasonable and fair in terms of expectations, both from myself and the companies I was working for. That’s when I first discovered BECTU. BECTU not only provides a network of support for post production and facilities workers but it also provides an active voice in improving working conditions for all of its members. That’s something I really wanted to be involved in which led to me joining up and being an active member.

Christopher CF Chow BFE, Film & TV EditorDiversity RepI rejoined BECTU because I was impressed with the work The Rough Assembly has done in the past few years. Frustratingly the progress on diversity and inclusiveness within our industry remains slow. There is huge amount of work ahead of us and we can only make positive change if we do it together as a community.

Chris Travis

Factual Lead Rep

Editor / Factual

I joined BECTU to become part of a community working to improve both the working conditions and the quality of output in our industry. I think the inevitable race to the bottom of pay and conditions that comes without a strong voice for workers harms everyone when the quality suffers and the UK loses its global reputation as a place to make great film and television.

David Thompson

Editor / Factual

I joined Bectu to look for ways to support factual editors and assistants in our challenging and fast-changing industry. Our roles can be isolating and demanding, but I believe by working together we can make working in factual post a happier, healthier experience.

Eleanor Adler

Secretary & Assistant Secretary of London Production Division

2nd Assistant Editor / Film & TV Drama

I joined BECTU because we can only improve the challenges we face in our industry by working together. I would like to support our branch in highlighting issues for new entrants and finding ways we can support students who want to start out in Post Production.

Ellie Stiles

2nd Assistant Editor / Film & TV Drama

I joined BECTU because I believe in the community and wanted to be part of pushing for a fairer, more sustainable future in post - for ourselves and the planet. If we don’t talk as freelancers, then who is going to look out for us?

Giovanni Todeschini

Assistant Secretary

1st Assistant Editor / Film & TV Drama

I believe that every worker, either employed or freelance, must rest assured that a trade union exists to look after their interests - from receiving a fair pay to having their human rights respected on the workplace. This is only possible when the community comes together and organises around the issues which are affecting it. I joined BECTU to contribute to its continuing mission of supporting people in the creative industries.

Inka Ritola

Assistant Editor / Factual

I have joined the committee as I feel my experience over the last few years can help address ongoing issues within the industry.
There are many areas that still need improvement, including working hours, rates and consistency of pay, correct credits and diversity.
I’m hoping by being part of the union I can contribute to bringing long term solutions to these issues.

Information Secretary

VFX Editor / Film & TV Drama

Kallis Shamaris, ADR Supervisor, Dialogue & ADR EditorSound TV RepFor too long Post Sound professionals have accepted working conditions that wouldn’t be acceptable to many of our colleagues working onset or on location . With no contracts or terms & conditions we’re often expected to work excessively long hours and weekends . More and more of us are working from home , becoming even more isolated . After years of complaining amongst ourselves and nothing changing ,it’s time to get organised . We can never achieve anything on a one to one basis with an employer - we need the collective bargaining power of BECTU. It’s been amazing to see what the editors have achieved so far in our branch of BECTU . With Facilities and post supervisors adopting the sound post rate cards we’re starting to see some progress and I hope that we can further continue improving workers rights across the board whether you are working on a big movie or a modest TV show.

Louisa Hawkins

1st Assistant Editor / Film & TV Drama

I joined BECTU because I feel it’s important to ensure that we get the best possible working conditions in this industry. I love my job, but the narrative that we should put our jobs above everything else in our lives is exhausting and unsustainable. I have seen a cultural shift over the past few years, with a lot of people recognising the importance of a work/life balance, but I also know that we need the power of collective bargaining and organisation to make lasting, meaningful change.

Paschalla Sharpe

Equality and Diversity Rep

1st Assistant Editor / Film & TV Drama

I joined BECTU and the committee to help create a stronger, more sustainable industry for each of us. I’m excited to be part of a community that is striving to improve diversity, inclusiveness and access within post-production. I would love to support the branch in championing a healthier work-life balance for all and see our colleagues who juggle caring/parenting roles thrive.

Peter Warnock - Sound Editor / Assistant Sound EditorLPD & Film RepI joined BECTU with the hope that, collectively, we can improve working conditions and pay for everyone working within post production. I'm looking forward to assisting our branch in future efforts to make positive changes within our industry.

After a few years working in the industry & finding my feet, I joined BECTU in 2014. It was clear to me that the industry wasn’t going to change how it treated its workers unless we pushed back from within, & fought for our rights.

I wanted to play my part in helping to change the system, even if it takes time, & progress is slow. I hope everyone can see, & has in some way benefited from the work we’ve done so far. vis-à-vis the rate cards, the agreements, the events & the supportive community everyone has been a part of building over the last 5-10 years.

Let’s all keep talking to each other about what its like working in Post, the issues we are facing, & how we can work on changing them in the next decade.
