February 2025 Monthly Roundup

Here’s a quick roundup of the key happenings from our latest meeting and updates for the month, including lots of lovely surveys:

The Rough Assembly - Ratecards and more

We’re looking to update our ratecards before the new tax year, and the more data we have the stronger our case for fairer wages. Please take 2 minutes to fill this out with the rate from your LAST job. Even if it was a while ago, it still counts and helps us to stand united.

The podcast and working groups are still being workshopped. Stay tuned for more news!

Bectu’s Big 25 Survey – Have Your Say!

Take part in Bectu’s Big 25 Survey and help shape the future of the UK’s creative industries. Your responses will guide campaigns and lobbying efforts. Now’s your chance to tell us what we—the workers and the union—can do together!

2024 Mental Health in the Industry: Looking Glass Survey

The 2024 Looking Glass Survey reveals concerning mental health trends:

  • 64% consider leaving due to mental health issues

  • 30% experienced suicidal thoughts

  • 30% feel lonely

  • 63% say work negatively impacts their mental health

  • Only 12% believe the industry is mentally healthy

Positive change is starting, but a culture shift takes time. Looking out for each other and campaigning for better can help, which brings us to:

Highlighting Mental Health Support: Break The Cycle Campaign

The Film and TV Charity’s “Break The Cycle” campaign sheds light on urgent mental health issues in the industry. Tackling these issues requires collective action; let’s work together, and watch each other’s backs.

If you or anyone you know is in crisis or needs support, please reach out to The Film and TV Charity.

Technicolor UK in Administration

Technicolor UK has entered administration, resulting in the redundancy of most of its 440 employees. Financial difficulties, including rising costs and the US writers' strike, led to this outcome. The company, with a history dating back over a century, contributed to iconic films like Pinocchio and Prometheus.

For the many talented workers impacted: please reach out for support if you need it.
